Butterscotch Brownies

Yield 18 servings


1/4 cup shortening or butter
1 cup light brown sugar, packed

1 egg

3/4 cup all purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease an 8x8 pan.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat and add  brown sugar, mixing until combined. Cool.

Stir in egg. Add flour, salt and baking powder. Mix in vanilla and nuts.

Spread evenly into the greased pan.

Bake for 25 minutes. Do not overbake.

Cut while warm.
