Cookies

1 cup sugar
¾ cup shortening
1 egg
1 tablespoon molasses
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda(baking soda)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
½ teaspoon cloves

Sift together flour, soda and spices.
Cream shortening and sugar together, blending well, add egg and molasses.
Roll in balls, springle with sugar by dipping a design in sugar and pressing each cooky.
Bake 325

This is exactly how the recipe is written on the card so I thought I would share this one in its original form.

For those who need regular instructions.

(You will also need extra sugar)
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In a medium bowl sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger and cloves, set aside.
In a large bowl cream together sugar and shortening, add the molasses and blend well. Mix in the egg.
Add the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

I scooped by the tablespoonful but you could go smaller.
Roll in granulated sugar, place on a parchment lined baking sheet and press with a cookie press or the bottom of a glass.

Bake for 6-12 minutes depending on the size.

I think they could use just a pinch of salt, but are delicious just the way they are. Perfect with a cup of tea.
